About NamesWithLove

We help parents find names they’ll love by combining public birth records with careful cultural and linguistic research.

Our mission

Naming a child is one of the most meaningful decisions a family makes. NamesWithLove makes that decision easier by combining 145 years of US Social Security Administration birth records with cultural, linguistic, and popularity context for every name. Our goal: help you find a name that fits your family, your heritage, and your taste.

Data sources

US birth records (1880–2024). Every popularity statistic, historical rank, and state-level breakdown is sourced from the US Social Security Administration’s public baby names database. We cover 104,819 unique names recorded since 1880.

Cultural and linguistic enrichment. Meanings, origins, pronunciations, and historical context are compiled from established naming references and cross-checked using Google Gemini. For widely studied names, we cite published sources directly; for rarer names, we note when coverage is limited.

AI-assisted tools. Our AI Name Consultant uses Anthropic’s Claude, our cultural deep-dive and enrichment use Google Gemini, and our Baby Face Preview uses Replicate. We disclose AI assistance clearly and don’t claim machine-generated suggestions as expert opinion.

Editorial approach

Blog articles on NamesWithLove are written and reviewed by the NamesWithLove Editorial Team. We focus on practical naming advice, trend analysis grounded in real SSA data, and cultural context that helps parents understand the names they’re considering.

When we cite trends, rankings, or statistics, those numbers come from the SSA dataset. When a cultural claim cannot be verified against primary sources, we remove it rather than speculate. We correct errors publicly and update the post date when substantive revisions are made.

What makes us different

  • • 104,819 enriched name pages — not a sample, the full SSA dataset
